Where I want to be in ten years may pan out in more than one way so I will tackle this post by presenting three trajectories.
A: Working full time in media, communications, publishing, or journalism. Moonlighting in freelance writing, editing, copy editing, or copy writing. Turning the moonlighting into a steady side hustle OR working with ZJ in creating a business. Side hustle becomes a full time job. Two kids, buy a house with a white picket fence…(the house part is a test to see how well you’ve kept up with my 30 day writing challenge, of course we would buy a tiny house!). A minimum of three return trips to Xi’an and China. Moderately fluent in Mandarin. Embracing minimalistic living.
B: Getting technical or professional, and forging a technical or professional writing or editing career…full time or freelance. Improved Mandarin and living a minimalist lifestyle. Kids, trips to Xi’an and China, and how could I forget the tiny house, pulled by ZJ’s F-150? 😄
C: An established freelance business, allowing me to work remotely, travel with ZJ, and kids? Fairly fluent in Mandarin, a minimalist, and a well-fed writer. Living in China, the US, or a neutral country where we both start with clean slates? Home ownership? Business owner beyond the restraints of freelancing? Other…?
Regardless of whether I end up traveling path A, B, or C, or any other path for that matter, I want to be doing something I love (I will figure out that something soon, I swear) as well as closing in on ZJ and I’s twelfth year of marriage and fifteenth year of being in a relationship and knowing one another.
With only ten days remaining, I realize I much prefer to be asking the questions, instead of answering them, noticing how I churn out roundabout posts in response to each prompt.
Readers, where do you want to be in ten years?
