如果我中五百万?Jackpot!

I could talk about all the material items I would purchase with my lottery winnings, however there are five “items” I would take care of or add to my possessions and experiences.

This is based on winning a hefty sum, let’s say a mega-millions jackpot:

Eradicate my student debt. Attend grad school, although not sure whether I would study journalism, media, Chinese or something unrelated. Purchase a custom built tiny house and a F-150 truck for ZJ (to pull said tiny house). Travel and see the rest of China as I never visited places like Hong Kong, Xinjiang, Tibet, Kaifeng, or Macau, to name merely a few in a growing list. And then I would save the rest!

What would you do with your lottery earnings?

I love the five things you would spend lottery winnings on and that you’d save the rest! I can’t wait for you to see Hong Kong and Macau and the others (I’ve never been to those either). If I won the lottery, I’d fund short, yearly trips abroad for my whole family, pay off our house, enroll in an intensive Cantonese course (preferably in Hong Kong!), and put half of the rest away for my kids’ education and our retirement and give the other half to charity.

There’s one in Chicago I’m going to start volunteering with this fall. It’s a Chinatown social service agency that provides day care, preschool, senior housing and day care, Mandarin classes, Chinese dance and music classes, and many more. They are trying to reach even more people and can always use money, so my lottery winnings would go there! One of the founders is an alum of my grad school in Hong Kong. Jake took Mandarin there many years ago.
